In real life, this isn’t a question, or shouldn’t be ~ wrap it up people. But what about in fiction? When you’re reading contemporary romance, do you expect the hero to wear a condom? Dear Author recently conducted a poll on the subject. 71% 294 votes said yes, they want their hero to wear a condom for the hot and heavy. You can read all the comments here.
Let’s face it putting on a condom isn’t exactly the sexiest part of the encounter, taking it off even less of a turn on. Do you think it adds too much reality to the fantasy of the moment?
Personally, I think the condom is a good idea, in fiction and in real life. Even though what I’m writing is fantasy and I’m not necessarily trying to educate the reader, if my heroine is a smart, modern woman, she’d insist on the condom.
However, as a writer, the condom issue is a challenge for me. No pun intended, you need a light touch so the whole putting in on taking it off doesn’t come off as awkward. LOL as it sometimes is in real life. : )
So it’s your turn. What’s your take on condoms in contemporary romance? If you write it; have you developed some tricks of the trade to slip them on without a hitch? If so, please share. : )
